Sessions 12-14: The Quest of the Crystal Spear
A lengthy fight against the Veil Walker Constructs ensued with the Company of the Wet Boot struggling valiantly to gain ground against their fearsome adversaries only to be forced further and further back. Finally, when hearty Mason had been forced into unconsciousness the team decided to cut their losses and yield ground while the option remained open. Phoebus and Vynduri dove into the thick one last time to retrieve Mason’s unconscious form with success at which point the group used a fire spider bomb to slow their enemies and make good their escape! However, even the mighty river of Kithtakarhos held no hope of salvation, as the constructs merely marched along the silty bottom to continue their pursuit of the Company. After attempting to top for a brief respite and finding themselves still being hounded, the group agreed to push forth back to town, where they hastily alerted the town guard to prepare for an assault from the remaining constructs. An assault that fortunately did not come to pass. Dorian later decided to send scouts into the swamp to see if they could track the creatures movements and that they would report back to him within a few days.
Taking the next few days to rest and plan, the Company determined that their next best course of action would be to re-trace their steps and attempt to hunt down the remaining Veil Walker drones. During this time, they attempted to seek information from Yavanna, who unfortunately was out of the region on some unknown errand. Alma of the Last Stop adventurer emporium proved to be most helpful to the group’s endeavors. In exchange for selling rights to a local fishery the team had purchased to use as a headquarters, Alma provided them with their first month’s rent, hired a young couple to manage the place and make it into a suitable homestead in their absence and also gave to Phoebus in exchange for his old sword and amber necklace, a Veil Walker Bane Longsword. This weapon was imbued with powerful magic, designed specially for creatures such as the constructs the group had previously fought and also contained an illusion spell which could be activated to hide the cobalt steel blade with a more common looking metal, so as to help it avoid the eyes and hands of thieves. Mason himself also purchased a large black iron claymore for close combat purposes. Their rest and errands concluded, the Company mounted their skiff with renewed purpose and returned up river to hunt down the remaining constructs, wherever they may have gone…
